Set of 6 Plaster of Paris white castings of animals |
Description |
Set of 6 Plaster of Paris white castings of animals, including 3 dogs, squirrel, owl and elephant. One dog is painted brown; other animals are white. The castings were found in the R. W. Dahl house, Hutchinson, MN and would have been created by R. W. Dahl after his serious heart attack in th late 1930s. His doctor (Dr. Jensen) ordered a change in diet and limited activity. Dick's son, Jim, delayed going to college in order to help his Dad carry on the insurance business. It was during this time that Dick started what became lifelong hobbies of carving and designing/making plaster of Paris molds. 2021-0131-006 magazine article "Hobby Tonic for Tired Nerves" was found with his molds & castings. It was printed by the Homecraft Editor of Popular Mechanics Magazine and urged sharing craft hobbies with others.. |
