Scanned large glass plate negative of a steam threshing crew on the John (Jan) Kasper Sr. farm. Shows a large straw stack in an open field. c.1903. (l to r) Straw stack, ladder, man on top; horse drawn wagon filled with sacks of grain, straw elevator, ten men on wagon, machine or standing on the ground; outbuilding, fence , large belt to tractor; man in vehicle with canopy pulled by horses, tractor with canopy, 2 barrels & 2 men by tractor, tall trees in the background. John (Jan) Kasper married Susan Pfaff on October 19, 1865. Born in New Orleans, Louisian, she was a daughter of Charles Meyers, a Frenchman and mother of Bavarian descent. She took the name of her step-father Alexander Pfaff, after the death of her own father and the re-marriage of her mother. John & Susan homesteaded 160 acres in section 6 of Rich Valley Township and give birth to 13 children and raised 9 children on the homestead: Susan (Huderle), Louisa (Magdanz), John Frank, Mary (Ehlert), Jennie (Burns), Fannie Konerza) Nell (Zavoral) Edward, and Blanche (Chalupsky).
