Description |
Black cotton cape with black seed bead trim down center back, around edge and in three shell shapes down the front. Has three pleats at bottom back. Brown cotton lining; hook/eye closure. Hand stitched. Worn by Mrs. Jeremiah (Sarah) Nobles in the 1800s. Sarah Hulett married Jeremiah Nobles in 1852. In 1856 with two little girls, the grandmother Moriah Chase Noble, and other relatives, the family migrated to the Minnesota territory. They settled nine miles west of Glencoe in Sumter township and lived on the same farm for over 60 years. During the winter of 1919 they both died just a month apart.
