Description |
Commemorative brass medal struck for the McLeod County celebration of the U. S. Bicentennial in 1976. On one side the medal features a picture of crossed flags with text "United States of America Bicentennial, 1776-1976"; on the reverse is a picture of Martin McLeod with text "McLeod County Historical Society, 1813 Martin McLeod 1860". The Hutchinson Coin Club had the medal made for fund raising purposes for the McLeod County Historical Society. The medals sold for $1.00 each. Original black/clear plastic box packaging. Museum has the pen drawing used for the medal by the Hutchinson Coin Club (2012-0091-001). The original charcoal drawing of Martin McLeod, Traverse des Sioux, July 17th, 1851 was drawn by Les C. Kouba in 1935 on textured paper (2011-0001-218). A facsimile of the drawing was used on the cover of the 1978 McLeod County History book. |
