Description |
World War I bronze medal badge on red, white & blue ribbon attached to a bar pin. Front side of disk has "World's War 1917" with image of soldier & sailor; back side "For Patriotism and Loyalty - Presented by the Citizens of McLeod County, Minn. at Hutchinson, August 19, 1919". Presented to the donor's father Arthur John Benjamin. Arthur J. Benjamin was called into the U.S. Army in 1917. He was stationed at Camp Pike, Arkansas, Camp Dix, NJ and served overseas in France during World War I with Company C, 346th Infantry, 87th Division, A.E.F. Following his honorable discharge in 1919 he returned to assist on the family farm. On August 9, 1921 he married Adela Nemitz. They moved to Chicago to attend Northwest Bible Institute where they studied to be missionaries. Due to Adela's ill health they returned to Hutchinson in 1923. Arthur then joined his father-in-law and brother-in-law, G. F. and Walter Nemitz, in their paint, wallpaper and glass business. He continued in this business for 65 years. Arthur John Benjamin died August 13, 1985. |
