Description |
White transferware cup with ornate "Milan" design in brown around the outside, inside the rim and at the inside bottom. Trademark of W. H. Grindley & Co, Tunstall. Rd39561. The cup was a wedding present given to Mrs. Albert Bluhm by her mother in 1888. A matching plate is 1979-0464-002. The pottery company was founded by William Harry Grindley at the Newfield Pottery, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent in 1880 and made earthenware and ironstone china - particularly for the Canadian, United States, South American and Australian markets. In 1891 the company moved to the Woodfield Pottery, Woodland Street, Tunstall. |
