Description |
Small gold finger ring with hammered decoration around the outside and inner inscription: Nellie A. Drew, Class of '74 [1874]. 18 karat. Nellie Drew was born December 6, 1857 in Gardiner, Maine, daughter of Joseph P. and Frances Drew. Nellie was a talented musician and an accomplished accompanist. As a young woman she traveled with the Hutchinson Family Concert troupe and later married a member of the company, Oliver Dennett Hutchinson on September 10, 1878. The year following their marriage they started farming on the Asa B. Hutchinson family homestead a mile south of Hutchinson village. In 1882 they moved into the village and Mr. Hutchinson bought an interest in a drug store, later buying out his partner E. M. Ridout, and continuing in business until 1889, when he became postmaster. In 1895 Mr. & Mrs. Hutchinson devoted their time to concert work and in 1897 moved to Minneapolis where they resided at the time of Nellie's death in 1930 at age 72 years, 5 months. The children of Nellie Drew and Oliver Dennett Hutchinson were Fred C. Hutchinson, Elizabeth "Little Bess" Hutchinson Fournie and Jesse Chace Hutchinson. |
