Description |
Wooden #551 locomotive and coal car. Made by Leonard Erickson in 1989 in one year's work. Engine is black walnut painted black with white numerals. Has 16 moveable wheels, cowcatcher, stairs, engineer chairs, lanterns. Coal car is painted black with white sign "Washington Richmond" & insignia. Has 12 wheels, handrails, ladder. Locomotives of this vintage 4-8-4, manufactured in the 1930s, were used for passenger & mainly freight service through the 1950s and early 1960s when all steam engines of this type were retired and succeeded by diesel and diesel electric. Many steam engines were restored and used. |
