Description |
Liberty kerosene lantern. Marked "Liberty S. H. Co. Inc., St. Louis" on the top and base. Patented January 10, 1905. Trademark registered. Wire bail handle on top and grip handle on back. Tall clear globe surrounded by metal reflector; two round vertical air tubes; handle to lift globe. Could be used as a hand lantern suitable for mills, warehouses, work shops, stables, any place where good light was required. Could be used as a driving lantern on a buggy or carriage with the spring back for attaching to a dash or as a "jack lantern" for hunting & fishing at night. The Simmons Hardware Company was a hardware manufacturer based in St. Louis with locations in six states. Period: 1865-1912. The company's stock consisted of many items, including ammunition, knives, mincers, wires, and even dog collars. They defined its products saying, "If you can't eat it, and it don't pour or fold, it's hardware". Salesmen were employed to sell either all items or specific items. Keen Kutter tools were manufactured by the company, and were advertised nationally. |
