Full length mink coat, beige with royal blue lining & double hook & eye closure. Label: Fur Salon, Carson-Pirie-Scott Co., Chicago. Belonged to Mary Ann Zeleny, daughter of Frank Zeleny, granddaughter of Antonin & Josephine Pitka Zeleny, Hutchinson. Later worn by Mae Hoodecheck Jensen, mother of donor Julie Jensen. Donor notes: Mary Ann Zeleny (December, 1911-December 21, 1995) was born in Aurora IL where her father, Frank Zeleny, worked for the Burlington Railroad. She served as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe during World War II. She was single until mid-life when she married Col. Morgan Heasley. They lived in Washington D.C. and it was during this period of her life, the 1950s, that she added the mink coat to her wardrobe. In the 1960s the retired Heasleys moved to Taos NM where the climate and lifestyle didn't favor a mink coat. So, Mary Ann gave it to her cold climate cousin, my mother Mae Jensen. Mae wore it on rare winter occasions from the 1960s until her death in 1999. Mary Ann, her parents Frank & Sopha Janecky Zeleny and her brother Frank Zeleny Jr. ultimately moved to Sun City, AZ where Mary Ann married Eubank "Banks" Brisky. She died as the result of being accidentally struck by a moving vehicle near her home. Facts about the Zeleny Family are on p.633 McLeod County History, 1978. |
