Description |
"The Peninsular" button setting/attaching machine made by Heaton-Penisular Button Fastener Co., Grand Rapids, Michigan. Used by Henry Grewe in his shoe shop to attach shoe buttons. "The Peninsular" has patent dates of Feb 12, 1884, Feb 24, 1885 & October 13, 1885. Machine is on a wooden tabletop mounted on an iron pedestal (tubular post) with three legs and a foot pedal. "Caution" is embossed on the base. Table has small two drawers: metal parts are in the one on left; assorted buttons are in drawer on the right. Brass plate on base of machine states "Restrictions: Sold and licensed to be used only with fasteners made by Heaton-Pensular Button Fastener Co. If used otherwise said Co's Patents are infringed and title to machine reverts to it. Purchaser and his assigns agree to above." The company was involved in several lawsuits regarding fasteners and button setting machines of other manufacturers. |
