Description |
Wedding dress, slip & headpiece of Mary (Marie) Mathilda Burdorf who married Fredrich Thalmann on October 16, 1910. The high necked dress is dotted cream color netting with lace on neckline and collar and horizontal pleated bands on the skirt. Back button & hook closure; inner lining on top. The muslin half slip has three wide bands of crocheted lace with pointed hemline. Headpiece has artificial flowers & seeds with a net cap. Matching accessories are boutonnieres 2013-0161-009 and headpiece 2013-0161-010. Museum has wedding photo 2013-0161-002 and charcoal drawing 2013-0161-007 of the couple. Mary was born March 9, 1890, daughter of Henry and Marie Husfeldt Burdorf. Fred was born at Plato on March 24, 1885. The couple had five children and lived on a farm in McLeod County. Fred served School District No. 23 as treasurer for 30 years. Fred died in 1944; Mary died September 13, 1969. . Mary & Fred were the parents of Helma Thalmann Englemann and grandparents of Lois Engelmann Martin, donors. |
