"Urban Retreat" |
Description |
Framed print "Urban Retreat" painted by Minnesota wildlife artist Les Kouba. A flock of thirteen Canada geese are landing on water in front of a house on Twin Lake near a float plane.150/1500. Signed by Les Kouba in lower right corner. Wood frame; glass. Brass plate reads "'Urban Retreat', To Les Kouba, Many Thanks, Chuck Thompson". Kouba "I got to know Chuck Thompson through hunting and fishing trips to the north country. We were visiting his home on Twin Lake one time and watching the Canada geese feeding on his shoreline. As I looked around I realized that Thompson had a real utopia here. He had the joys of the wilderness in his own front yard. I thought this scene would make an interesting painting. Chuck liked the idea so I painted his home with his airplane tied at shore and the Canada Geese. It was really a case of showing the beauty of nature within the confines of a major metropolitan area - a real urban retreat." [The Legacy of Les C. Kouba] "Urban Retreat was commissioned by Charles P. Thompson to commemorate the completion of Northridge Apartments on October 1, 1983. The giant original oil measuring 36 inches by 84 inches is the centerpiece of Mr. Thompson's personal art collection consisting of over 100 pieces of Mr. Kouba's work which are on permanent display throughout Northridge. Mr. Kouba has captured in oil 13 giant Canadian geese landing on Twin Lake adjacent to the Thompsons' residence." [Brochure attached to back of print.] |
