Description |
White wedding dress worn by Amanda C. Peterson for her wedding to Henry C. Braun on November 26, 1924. The dress is sheer with a large fleur-de-lis lace insert on the chest and smaller lace insets across bodice, sleeves and around hip and hem.. Tiny vertical tucks also adorn the dress. Back hook & eye closure. Henry C. Braun operated Braun's Department Store, Hutchinson, with his brother Milan Braun. The store was founded by their father in 1895. Following Henry's death in 1963 Amanda and Milan operated the store and in 1980 Amanda continued as sole manager following Milan Braun's death. She was a member of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and was elected Business Person of the Year in 1980 and Hutchinson Woman of the Year in 1982. She was a member of the Congregational UCC church and the Hutchinson Woman's Club, of which she was its oldest member when she died in 1984. Henry and Amanda had two daughters, Lucille Virginia Braun and donor Dorothy Braun Hansen. |
