"Big Bills' Barrel'n In" |
Description |
Framed print "Big 'Bills' Barrel'n In" painted by Minnesota wildlife artist Les C. Kouba. A flock of thirteen Bluebill ducks are landing. Three are in the foreground. Considered Kouba's best and most sought after Bluebill print. Published in 1972 by the American Wildlife Art Galleries. 788/1000. Signed by Les Kouba in lower right corner. Wood frame with gold border; glass. Kouba: "Big Bills was inspired by a trip to Jimmy Robinson’s Duck Camp on the Great Delta Marsh in Manitoba, Canada. When I visited Jimmy’s, I always took my camera and plenty of film along. The hunting is so superb that by 8 o’clock in the morning you’ve shot your limit. I like to stay on the marsh for another hour or so and photograph the ducks and geese as they decoy in. My long suit is bluebills and I love to watch them as they glide in almost like a maple leaf - a kind of zig-zagging dance. As they glide in, there’s a moment of no return. It happens right before the bills settle in. It’s this moment that I wanted to catch. For the hunter, this painting says it all. [The Legacy of Les C. Kouba] |
