"Canoe Country" |
Description |
Framed print "Canoe Country" painted by Minnesota wildlife artist Les Kouba. Watercolor art print of a lone man in his canoe in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Northern Minnesota. Published in 1978. 826/1500. Signed by Les Kouba in lower right corner. Wood frame painted gold; glass. Kouba: "This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by author Calvin Rustrom. He gave it to me when I was illustrating one of his many outdoors books. I wanted to express the early morning serenity of the border lakes area between Ely and Grand Marais. It’s so quiet as you glide through the water in a canoe. The only sound you hear is the paddle as it breaks through. When it came time to paint this picture, I had Cal pose for me. He sat in the canoe on dry land. I sketched him posing as you see him in the painting." [The Legacy of Les C. Kouba] |
