Description |
Dance costume with flared aqua satin shorts/skorts with three rows of gathered organdy trim around the legs and side zipper closure. Short organza top has full draping long sleeves with tight cuffs and front snap placket. Worn by Marjory Rotzien Plath in the 1940s for performances with Miss Louise Nagel's tapdancing class in Hutchinson, MN. Pupils trained under the WPA recreational program. For more than ten years Marjory and her sister Doris Rotzien Nelson took lessons upstairs in City Hall and did recitals & performances at the State Theatre, old Armory, School, City Hall, and at the Grandstand at the McLeod County Fair. The sisters were the last students of Miss Nagel still dancing as teenagers. Costumes would correspond with the music of the particular dance. All costumes for her daughters were made by Genevieve Jensen Rotzien, mother of Marjory and Doris Rotzien. Photograph of the two girls wearing this costume is 2015-0162-008. The girls danced for the last time in Stewart, MN and won third place. They were the last remaining students of Miss Nagel. |
