Description |
Wedding dress worn by Elizabeth Quast when she married Fred Martin on December 5, 1917 in Buffalo Lake. The sheer dress has a large cape collar edged with ruffles. The 3/4 sleeves also have two rows of ruffles. Rows of horizontal tuck pleating encircle the skirt above the hem. Has front crossover hook & eye closure at the waist stiffener and snap closure on the front of the collar. Worn with silk slip 1986-1234-001, From Buffalo Lake the Martins moved to Hutchinson. Mr. Martin was employed with S. J. Boelter's store as general merchandise manager and on the road as a salesman. He also ran the selective service office. Fred died on July 29, 1955. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Quast Martin was born May 15,1893, the daughter of John and Emelia (Otto) Quast. She died at age 104 on November 19, 1997. Her brother was Walter Quast and her sister was Adella Quast. The donor Stanley Martin was the couple's only child. |
