Framed painting of the original Vineyard Methodist Church, Hutchinson, MN. Painted by Lowell Baysinger, c.1960-1963. Blond wood frame; glass As early as 1856 Methodist services were held in homes, the general store and the school. The Methodist Society was organized in 1857 in Hutchinson under the Minnesota Territory. The first church in Hutchinson was erected in 1870 and named Vineyard after Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting where the Hutchnson family sang. The bell came from friends in Boston, Mass. in 1875. The church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1893; again remodeled and full basement constructed in 1915. In 1952 total membership was about 600. |
