Framed large print of the Defense of Hutchinson, Minn., Sept. 4, 1862, Sioux Uprising led by Little Crow (Chief). From a pencil sketch by E. D. Krist, soldier at the Stockade. Shows locations of the Stockade, roads, Crow River, hotel, Merrill house, Pendergast Academy, hotel, black smith shop in Hutchinson. Black wooden frame & glass; wood panels taped to back. See accession number 2016-0129-001 Note: E. D. Krist is listed as E. D. Kirst in "Minnesota in the Civil and Indian Wars, 1861-1865", published in 1891, in the Roster of Company B (p. 442) and in the Minnesota Adjutant General's Report of 1866, p. 230. He was German born, age 31, when mustered in August 15, 1862 and was mustered out August 24, 1865. |
