346th Inf. U.S. Army pennant from Camp Pike, Arkansas. Image of eagle above a shield; on olive drab felt. Pennant belonged to Sgt. Arthur J. Benjamin, Co. C, 346th Inf., 87th Division, A.E.F. Arthur J. Benjamin was called into the U.S. Army in 1917. He was stationed at Camp Pike, Arkansas, Camp Dix, NJ and served overseas in France during World War I with Company C, 346th Infantry, 87th Division. Camp Pike, Arkansas was established July 18, 1917 to serve as training camp for the 87th Division (U.S. Army) , which occupied the cantonment August 1917 to June 1918. It was named in honor of Brigadier General Zebulon M. Pike, U.S. Army, discoverer of Pike's Peak. He was killed in action in 1818. |
