Gilchrist's model 31 ice cream scoop. The # 20 on the sweep tells the number of scoops in one quart of ice cream. Wooden handle. From 1900s-1920s. Raymond B. Gilchrist was born in New Jersey around 1866. He owned his own business, The Gilchrist Co. in Newark, NJ from, 1902 until 1926, and manufactured hardware specialty items such as Ice Cream Scoops, cork pullers, ice picks, etc. used in soda fountain shops during that era. He invented, and patented many ice cream scoops from 1907 to 1915 and had a very successful manufacturing business for over 25 years. It is believed that he died around 1928 |
