Description |
Dobbs Brothers wooden drafting tool called "The United States French Tailor System". Thin curved wooden tool with center slit used for drafting shirt waist patterns for ladies' and children's clothing. Marked with measurements for darts, front & back neck, waist, bust & chest, and shoulder. Patented March 19, 1890 by Dobbs Bros., Successors to Marshall & Dobbs; Sole Proprietors, Patent Owners and Manufacturers; 1027 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Instruction book (copyright 1909) is 2014-0175-002. Belonged to Frances Klobe Donnay who took the Dobbs Bros. dressmaking course, the price of which included the drafting tool. She was required to make an outfit in order to graduate from the class. Her dress is shown on p. 261 of "Family: A Link to the Past"-Donnay genealogy book (2014-0175-003). She lived at Glencoe (1918-1982) and sewed the clothing for her family of 13 children. Frances Klobe was born April 23, 1897, daughter of Carl & Pauline Teuber Klobe, She married Frank Donnay on April 6, 1918 and she died September 24, 1984. |
