Description |
Silver Lake Band uniform jacket, trousers & gloves. Worn by Wallace O. Merrill who served as Secretary. White cotton duck fabric. Jacket has shoulder epaulets, brass buttons embossed with lyres, and off-white braid on sleeve bottoms. Pants have the same braid down the side seams, buttons for suspenders and button fly closure. A handwritten label inside the waistband is dated 2-16-6. Gloves of white cotton. Wallace O. Merrill was born December 12,1879, son of William Wallace & Jennie Malone Merrill. In August 1902 he married Alice Emma Danek. W. Oscar Merrill was instrumental in founding the Silver Lake Leader in 1901 at the age of 22. After other ventures he became the sole owner of the Silver Lake Leader and later became Postmaster for Silver Lake MN. He was a member of the Silver Lake Band and served as Secretary. Wallace O. Merrill died in July 1955. |
