Description |
Pale blue organdy tap dance costume dress with ruffled skirt, ruffles at neck and around bodice insert; narrow white lace trim, white bias tape on edges of short sleeves, fabric ties at waist. Back two button closure. Worn by Doris Rotzien Nelson in the 1940s for performances with Miss Louise Nagel's tapdancing class in Hutchinson, MN. Pupils trained under the WPA recreational program. For more than ten years Doris and her sister Marjory Rotzien Plath took lessons upstairs in City Hall and did recitals & performances at the State Theatre, old Armory, School, City Hall, and at the Grandstand at the McLeod County Fair. The sisters were the last students of Miss Nagel still dancing as teenagers. Costumes would correspond with the music of the particular dance. All costumes for her daughters were made by Genevieve Jensen Rotzien, mother of Marjory and Doris Rotzien. Matching dress worn by Marjory is 2015-0162-017. |
