Framed photograph of Dr. A. J. Thompson on the right receiving a veterinary award from an unidentified man. He was named the first "Veterinarian of the Year" in 1965 by Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. The men are standing in front of the Iowa Room at the Leamington Hotel, Minneapolis. Wood frame; glass. Arnold John Thompson was born March 4, 1894 at Canby MN, son of Ole & Thonette (Vigen) Thompson Odden. He was a resident of Hutchinson since 1919 after serving two years in the US Cavalry in WWI. On October 12, 1921 he married Huldah Young. He practiced veterinary medicine in Hutchinson for 57 1/2 years. He helped found the Hutchinson American Legion Post 96 & served as its first commander. He was a member of the Hutchinson Utilities Commission from 1936 to 1963, a director of Citizens Bank for 40 years and a member of the City Planning Commission from 1963-1970. He died June 17, 1976. |
