Cupola Hutchinson MN City Hall |
Description |
Color digital photograph (taken 11-23-2012) of the cupola located in Fireman's Park on the east side of Main Street, at the south bank of the Crow River. The cupola was atop the City Hall building that was built in 1914 and demolished in 1994. In the background on the left, is the Municipal Electric Plant. Ron Black, son of former mayor D.J. Black, rescued the cupola from demolition. The Hutchinson Women's Club, led by Elaine Black, spearheaded its renovation and preservation and in 1998 the cupola was placed in Fireman's Park. The City Hall cupola held a bell which summoned firefighters and sounded the 10:00 p.m. curfew. As of March 2013, the bell is located at a successor fire station at Third Avenue and Jefferson Street. |
