Black & white photograph of Father Honoratus Povolny and five young girls, probably a first communion group. Father Povolny is dressed in priestly vestments and holding a book. The girls are dressed in white with hair bows and flowers. The photo props indicate the photographer was F. G. Rasset, Winsted, MN. Mounted on a cabinet card. Father Honoratus Povolny was the first resident pastor of Holy Trinity, Winsted, MN and served from 1877-1884. The Church of the Holy Trinity was officially incorporated on October 9, 1882. During his tenure there were over 300 baptisms. Father Povolny built a new frame church (1877), a rectory, and started the parochial school at Holy Trinity in 1883-1884 and in 1884 built the first Catholic Elementary School, including a convent. He obtained the first three teachers from the Sisters of St. Francis in Rochester: Sister Barbara, Sister Bonaventure, and Sister Ursula. |
