Sepia-toned photograph & negative #50 of a large group of adults and children standing in front of Winsted Public School, for a Columbus Day celebration, c. 1892. Patriotic bunting is draped in the doorway and on the fence rail; some are holding American flags. Four boys are sitting in the open upper windows. Wooden sidewalk. This school building was built in 1887 and torn down in the 1960s. Clyde Prior (Teacher) is man with cane at left. Felton Vollmer is standing by the door; Hattie Vollmer is identified as the 2nd person below Felton. Mary Graham is identified at the first woman to the left of triangle flag, with Roy Vollmer in front and to the right of Mary Graham. Ada Vollmer is identified as 3rd to Hattie Vollmer's right. Rob Vollmer is in front of Ada Vollmer (with Fauntleroy collar). Identities are per penciled notes on photo back. Mounted on tan photo board. Reproduction photo: 2016-0032-063. |
