Sepia toned studio photograph of Lewis I. Harrington. He is wearing a vested suit with very wide lapels; no tie is visible. He has a wiry beard with some grey. His eyes are very light in color. The print is mounted on heavy textured paper. Lewis Harrington (1830-1884), was part of the Hutchinson brothers exploratory party. A native of Ohio and the Hennepin County surveyor, he was looking for a promising place to settle permanently. To the Hutchinson map he added the following note: "I hereby certify that this is a correct map of Hutchinson as surveyed by me in December 1855" signed Lewis Harrington, Surveyor. |
