Scanned sepia toned photograph of the Commercial Hotel, Glencoe, located on the corner of Hennepin Avenue (front) and Franklin (11th) Street (left). A group of people are gathered in front and horses are at the hitching rail. On the left is a "Meat Market" sign and a gas street lamp at the corner. On the right the sign on the Commercial Barn is visible. August Violet took possession of the North Western Hotel on April 1, 1882, gave it a thorough renovation, and changed its name to the Commercial Hotel. Dolan and Ryan were the new management proprietors and had a stable in connection with the House. November, 1882 rates were $1.00 per day for transient boarders and $3.50 per week for regular boarders with a good square meal for 25 cents. Ed Jones advertised oysters sold by can or bulk and served in the parlor. Ed's Sample Room was located on the right of the entrance and his wines & liquors were available on the left. In September, 1883 Mrs. Eheim was landlady of the Commercial Hotel and Uncle Newton was in the barn. In August, 1888 parties having accounts with the Northwestern hotel were given notice to pay D. Eheim only. J. R. Graupman, landlord of the Plato Hotel, rented the Commercial House in 1891 for five years and planned improvements. Original photo was probably taken by Nelson Hassan.
