Glass plate negative of a photograph of Albert Mayer and his wife Emma Bell Mayer. They are seated and dressed in dark clothing. Albert has a mustache and beard. Taken in 1885 by Nelson Hassan, Photographer, Glencoe, MN. Negative #160. Albert & Emma Mayer came to Glencoe c.1881 . They at first conducted the City Hotel and later operated the American House at Glencoe, MN. Mrs. Mayer's brothers G. C. Bell and John Bell were also in business in Glencoe. Albert Mayer was born February 10, 1843 in Germany and came to America at age 24 years. He married Emma Bell of Jordan, MN on April 25, 1870. He died May 26, 1904. Emma Bell was born January 21, 1851 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She died November 10, 1921. The couple had ten children. |
