Bound booklet/folder of sixteen black and white photographs of the Red Cross Victory Day Parade, November 11, 1918 in Hutchinson, MN. Cover of booklet/folder imprinted "1919 New Year's Greeting from Hutchinson Red Cross Victory Day Parade, November 11, 1918" ; donated from the Red Cross to soldiers. Handwritten diary of WWI soldier Albert W. Lake is on back of each photo with entries dated from May 2, 1918 to April 28, 1919, including lists of names of all the towns he had been to. All photos are viewed looking northeast along Main Street of Hutchinson, MN near the corner with 1st Avenue South. Library Square is seen, as are the storefronts of F. Brabec, Mergen & Moore, & H. Hanke, Tailor on the east side of the street in photos 1-15; signs and storefronts in photo 16 on the west side of the street are: Dr. Bennion-Dentist, Dr. Sheppard, and Braun's. Some photos are captioned. Photo images are identical to those in 1994-0014-001. Penciled on the back cover are the names: N____ Jones 10 F, George Schwartz 20, and Herry Hill 45. Bound in brown stiff paper with black ink and border/design. Prepared by Pa-Ko Studios, Minneapolis, MN. Albert "Al" Lake enlisted February 25, 1918 and served overseas in World War I. He was attached to the 35th Division, 138th infantry as a cook and baker and participated in the St. Mihiel Drive in the Meuse-Argonne region of France. Al Lake was discharged May 13, 1919. His timeline diary is written on the back of the photos and the diary entries and transcriptions are included in Images. |
