In the foreground are a street lamp, horse and buggy and a path into Central Park, later called Library Square. The west side of Main Street from First Avenue South to Washington Avenue looked like this in 1889. From left: The American House ("Hutchinson's Leading One Dollar a Day Hotel"), J. Schuneman Hardware, Joe Kaelick, Post Office, Hanson's restaurant, L.A. Ritter Hardware, Jurgens, Christlieb's Drug Store, Merchants Hotel, Washington Avenue, and Baseman's Corner.
