  2. Shirtwaist - Black jacquard bodice/shirtwaist

    Black jacquard bodice/waist with loose front gathered at neckline and long sleeves puffed at shoulders and upper arms. Front features two horizontal rows of beading, three vertical black satin bows on right side, black satin ruffle on left side, black satin ruffles on sleeve edges and black satin waistband. No collar. Center hook/eye closure on inner bodice and left front hook/eye closure. Five stays and inner brown cotton lining.

    Black long sleeve shirtwaist/bodice with taffeta (?) center panel, standup collar and cuffs. Hook/eye closure. Gray cotton lining; side stays. Worn by Mrs. Julius Schwalbe, mother of Mrs. William Kreitlow, in about 1894. Donated by Elizabeth Martha Kreitlow Kottke, granddaughter of Mrs. Schwalbe and wife of Rev. Irving Kottke.

Shirred silk neck trim; pleated silk crosses over back and front; puffy silk long sleeves with muslin lining and wide loose cuffs; hooks at back waist. Labels on underarm shields inside: The Best. Warranted. Kleinert. Trade Mark. The Gem, Registered. Belonged to Nellie Pendergast, daughter of Roswell H. Pendergast and Hellon L. Parker.

    White cotton long sleeve waist (blouse) with large area of eyelet and lace in floral pattern in front and narrow scalloped lace at the neckline and on the sleeves. Narrow vertical tucks along the back button closure. Belonged to Frances Kovar, donor's aunt. Frances Kovar (1867-1946) was a sister to Sophie Kovar Pishney. Frances was married to William Baker and to Christ Hedensten. c.1900.

    Wine colored long sleeved shirtwaist. Lace collar and jabot have floral net & silk diamond shaped panels. Shoulder pleats on front and back. Front is gathered at waist. Puffy gathered leg-of-mutton sleeves with long ruffled cuffs accented with thread buttons and ending in five rows of lace and velvet.
