Knife, Block - Crude handmade block knife
Crude handmade block knife dated prior to 1900. Old number 144. Consists of a metal blade with wood grip attached to a 10" wood square on four peg legs. A smaller rotating wood block is mounted on top slightly off center and attached to a peg underneath. Knife was used to cut out rough wood shapes for the woodshop. Also called a stock knife. A large version is pictured in "A Museum of Early American Tools"" by Eric Sloane, pp.9 & 85.
