Hutchinson, MN 1912 parade-Home Guard |
Scope & Content |
Black and white photographic postcard of a Hutchinson, MN parade in October,1912. A group of men is at the forefront, with the lead one holding an American flag. Band members holding musical instruments are following them. Also visible are parade spectators, an automobile, and a buggy. The parade commemorated the 50th anniversary of the 1862 Indian Uprising and the men were stockaders. The view is of the intersection at Main Street and Washington Avenue, with Bolduc's Tavern at the corner. To its left is a sign advertising an automotive and livery business - the sign on the front of the building indicates they did business in automobiles, bicycles, sporting goods, and gun repair. Identified on 2005-0264-034 as F. A. DeLong's business from his name on the awning. The card is addressed to Dorothy Sivwright at Creswell, OR. Message reads: Dear Dorothy, Awful glad to hear from you. Buster and your Papa are well. Buster is awful lonesome but not as lonesome as Grandpa. Give my love to Mama. When are you coming home? from Grandpa J. Kouwe". Postmarked June 23, 1913 at Hutchinson, MN. Green one-cent Washington stamp. |
