Hotel Jorgenson, Hutchinson, MN |
Scope & Content |
Sepia toned photographic postcard of the Hotel Jorgenson on the southwest corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue. An awning is above the entry; 3 vintage automobiles are parallel parked on the street. The Farmers & Merchants State Bank was located inside the building. What appears to be a large pocket watch is leaning on the left side of the building, under an awning with S.S.[N.S.?] Nelson printed on the lower edge. The hotel was constructed in 1916 by brothers John A. and Arthur B. Jorgenson. This three story brick building used fireproof construction, had 72 rooms, and 20 bathrooms. In 1884 I.B. Jorgenson purchased The Merchants Hotel (located on the southwest corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue), rebuilt and operated it for about 35 years. In 1905 Mr. Jorgenson's sons, John A. and Arthur B., partnered with their father in managing the business, ultimately carrying on alone when the elder Jorgenson retired in 1911. Prior to The Merchants Hotel, the first hotel, the Hutchinson Railroad House, was located on the southwest corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue. |
