Wooden rolling pin given to Art Barsness & Dorothy Engel at the time of their engagement. Inscribed on it are the names of teachers & staff who worked with them at the Hutchinson Public Schools in 1947. Art J. Barsness Jr. was born March 14, 1921 in Nielsville MN, the son of Arthur J. Barsness Sr. and Helen Marie Christopherson Barsness. Arthur was a teacher for Hutchinson High School for 35 years. He taught English and journalism, advised the school newspaper and directed several school plays. On August 1, 1948 he married Dorothy Engel. He died June 13, 2004. Dorothy June Engel Barsness was born June 22, 1922 in Brainerd, the daughter of Edward L. and Louise S. Kroeger Engel. She was a girls' physical education teacher at Hutchinson High School where she taught for three years before her marriage to Arthur J. Barsness in 1948. Later she taught girls' physical education, English, and classroom dirver's training at Brownton High School for a short period. The couple had three children. Dorothy died on November 5, 2000.
