Sepia toned studio photograph of Herman Engler of Lester Prairie, MN. Mounted in brown photoboard frame. Herman Engler was born November 30, 1859 in Germany. In October 1883 he and his betrothed Alvina Meier (October 31, 1858) came to America & settled in Carver County. They married five months later and moved to Norwood where Herman was a carpenter. In January 1887 they moved to the newly established town site of Lester Prairie. Herman worked as a carpenter and manager of the Herman J. Heneman Lumber Yard & the Lester Prairie Lumber Company. In 1901 Herman purchased stock and in 1908 became sole owner of Engler Lumberyard and built up a successful business. He partnered with John Maetzold and later with his son-in-law Walter Schwichtenberg. The Englers were fashionable and admired. They wanted to add to the beauty and betterment of the village and Herman served as mayor from 1907-1910. Herman died May 16, 1932.
